Unit testing, yaani ki “यूनिट टेस्टिंग”, software development ki ek testing technique hai. Isme software application ke chote se chote functional units, jinhe “units” kehte hain, ko individually aur isolated tarike se test kiya jaata hai.

Unit testing ka mukhya uddeshya hai, har ek unit ko alag-alag tarike se aur swatantra roop se test karke uski correctness, functionality, aur performance ko verify karna. Yah unit tests code level par hoti hain aur normally developer dwaara hi execute ki jati hain. Unit testing se mukhya roop se yeh pata lagaya jata hai ki kisi specific module, class, ya function ke andar ka code sahi tarike se kaam kar raha hai ya nahi.

Unit testing ke kuch pramukh tatva hain:

  1. Test Cases: Unit testing mein, test cases tayyar kiye jaate hain jo har ek unit ke behavior aur expected output par dhyan dete hain. Test cases ko normally developer hi design aur execute karte hain.

  2. Isolation: Har ek unit test case ko dusre units se isolate tarike se execute kiya jaata hai, yaani ki unko dusre units ke influence se bachaya jaata hai. Isolation ke liye mock objects, test doubles, ya stubs ka upyog kiya jaata hai.

  3. Code Coverage: Unit testing mein code coverage ki bhi parikshan ki jaati hai. Code coverage check karne se pata chalta hai ki kitna code test cases dwara cover kiya gaya hai.

  4. Automation: Unit testing kaafi had tak automation ke dwara ki jaati hai. Iske liye bahut se unit testing frameworks aur tools jaise ki JUnit (Java), NUnit (.NET), aur PyTest (Python) ka upyog kiya jaata hai.

Unit testing ke fayde hai:

  1. Defects Detection: Unit testing code ke errors, bugs, aur defects ko jaldi pakadne mein madad karta hai, jisse unki jaldi se jaldi correction ho sake.

  2. Code Maintainability: Unit testing code base ko maintain karne mein madad karta hai. Jab koi code changes kiya jaata hai, unit tests un changes ka asar dekh sakte hain aur koi regression defects detect kar sakte hain.

  3. Refactoring Support: Unit testing, code refactor karne ko asaan banata hai. Refactoring ke samay, unit tests ko chalakar code ki correctness aur functionality ka pata lagaya ja sakta hai.

  4. Documentation: Unit tests sahi tarike se likhe jaate hain, jisse unhe documentation ka role bhi nibhate hain. Unit tests code ke behavior aur functionality ke bare mein acchi samajh dete hain.

Unit testing software quality assurance aur robust software development process ka mahatvapurn hissa hai. Yah software applications ko stable, reliable, aur bug-free banane mein madad karta hai.
